Many different services have sprung up to provide an additional layer of protection for websites.
In today’s training, I will walk you through how to take advantage of the best online content delivery network service to protect your most valuable asset, your website!
Oh, and this service is free to use!
CloudFlare, in the words of Wikipedia, is a U.S. company that provides content delivery network services, DDoS mitigation, Internet security and distributed domain name server services.
In normal English, CloudFlare protects your website from hackers and delivers your content faster to your visitors.
How does it protect your website?
By sitting in between your domain and your web host as a short of “shield” against malicious behavior. It also makes managing your website and hosting easier and faster.
Although there are paid versions of CloudFlare, 99% of you reading this will happily get by with the free version.
Today I am going to walk you through how to connect your website and hosting to CloudFlare.
Let’s get to it!
Step 1: Sign Up For CloudFlare
To signup for CloudFlare, simply CLICK HERE.
Follow the instructions by entering your domain name (which you should have already purchased) and selecting the FREE account.
As mentioned above, almost all of you reading this training will never need more than the free version.
Step 2: Change your DNS to CloudFlare
After you sign up for an account, the next step is to change your DNS information to point your nameservers to CloudFlare.
Don’t worry if you don’t understand what this means, you only need to do this once.
For GoDaddy, CLICK HERE.
For NameCheap, CLICK HERE.
For both tutorials, you need to use “Custom Nameserver” settings.
Your “nameservers” will be given you when you signup for CloudFlare (and also will be given each time you add a new website to your CloudFlare account).
Step 3: “Point” your website to your Hosting Account
The last step is to connect your website to your hosting account using your CloudFlare dashboard.
To complete this step, you will need the your “server IP address” which will have been provided to you when you signed up for your hosting account.
If you don’t have your IP address, you can get it from CPanel dashboard or simply by contacting your hosting support via email, chat or phone. To see my recommended hosting company with awesome American phone support CLICK HERE.
Once you have your IP address, follow these steps:
1) Create a new A record and paste in your server IP
2) Create a new CNAME record and use “www” as the target
..and thats it!

I know this may seem complicated and I’m sure it will be confusing the first time you do it.
However, you only need to a create a CloudFlare account once and after you add each domain you never have to touch it again.
The protection CloudFlare provides (for free!) will free you up from ever having to worry about DDoS attacks or malicious hackers.
As you will hear me constantly preach, as a business owner your time is extremely valuable and for 99% of you setting up your CloudFlare is not worth your time.
